What to expect as we work together:
• My coaching meets you where you are and is guided by principles of access, inclusion, and respect. I champion originality and authenticity and believe in the power of the arts and the importance of artists in society. I also know how ‘whole-making’ it can be to be seen, heard, and accompanied on the restorative journey of finding or expanding one’s voice and contributions.
Structured sessions, Spontaneous spaciousness:
• Our first meeting is an initial free 18-minute “breakthrough” call.
• Once we decide to work together, we schedule a 90-minute “activation” session which includes a thorough assessment of your current creative situation and your goals for the coaching calls.
• While much transformation can start to be catalyzed in a single session, clients who get the most results from my coaching commit to a 3-, 5-, or 10-session package (see descriptions, below).
• Coaching sessions can be individual, with a loved one or collaborating partner, or a combination of these. Each package/series is customized to your goals and needs.
• The shape of the “arc” of sessions and the scope of focus is determined in the initial “activation” session.

In this initial 90-minute session we’ll discuss your goals, visions, and areas of priority for Breakthrough. You’ll describe your current zones of experience, artistic and otherwise, and we’ll assess your creative resources.
I'll guide you in creating a 2025 breakthrough action plan with a step-by-step map to a specific, measurable creative–or life–goal: the breakthrough you wish to achieve.Together, we'll identify needs, tools, exercises, and resources to support your success. Toward the end of the session we’ll explore next steps including the package, creative group cohort, or combination of resources that can best support you to fulfill your vision and have a breakthrough year.
Note, this Activation session is a pre-requisite for continuing with single coaching or mentoring sessions or with 3- 5-, and 10- session coaching packages.
An Individual Activation session is not required for the Creative Cohorts in the Your Breakthrough Year programs, however this session can be added to enhance decision-making or to customize your Breakthrough plan, following the free 18-minute breakthrough call.
The Activation session price will be applied toward fees for any continuing program I offer in 2025, including the 3-, 5- and 10-session coaching or mentoring packages, and Creative Breakthrough Cohorts.

The “Free/Find your Voice/Vision, Speak/Sing Your Truth” is a coaching package attuned to your next breakthrough in expression, ease, and satisfaction. Sessions are 90-minutes unless other arrangements are made.

Individual mentoring offers songwriters, performers, emerging mythtellers, community/social practice and multi-modal artists a combination of hands-on skills building, creative and performance coaching, and attention to living into one’s artistry in context of your creative field and our current times.
Mentorships are arranged seasonally for one to six months beginning in April 2025. There are currently openings for three adults and three teen/young adult mentees.
Each Mentorship is co-created with the mentee specific to their focus.
Frequency of online or face to face sessions, weekly or monthly, are determined after the first activation session (see personal coaching).
In addition to private sessions, mentees may have opportunities to participate in small group workshops with fellow artist-mentees.
Each mentorship begins with an Individual Breakthrough Coaching session in which we assess the suitability of a mentorship for your needs and vision.

Judith-Kate offers coaching and mentoring for vocalists, performers, songwriters and community teaching artists.
Mentorships are most frequently one-to-one but can be designed in small group, master class, and staff training formats.
Sessions can take place online or in person (travel costs additional).

Small and Larger groups:
Mentoring can include components of any of Judith-Kate’s Teaching Artist Trainings or the full training (see songwritingworks.org and mythsingerlegacy.org to learn more about Judith-Kate’s work with teaching artists.
Mentorships can also be integrated into undergraduate and graduate-level curriculum or agency training programs. Specific mentoring project design is determined in collaboration with hosting agency and funding partners.

Judith-Kate Friedman co-founded and co-directed the Psalms, Songs and Stories™ project with Rabbi Sheldon Marder at the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (2003-2019).
The program is now available as a co-facilitated experience in which Judith-Kate and a clergy person or scholar well-versed in Psalms or other wisdom literature collaborate together to serve specific community needs in a one or two day workshop or a series of sessions (online or in person).
The experience brings participants on a journey into one or more liturgical texts through diverse translations and related artwork. They then co-compose original musical compositions using the Songwriting Works™ approach.
Past projects have engaged elder Jews (average age 88) residing in long-term care settings , rabbinical students and community elders co-writing together, congregants of all ages composing songs for holidays, and interfaith groups using the study and songwriting experience to share diverse perspectives, listen deeply to each other, and turn their heartfelt understandings into memorable songs.
